I'm not quite sure yet how these posts will go, but here is a collection of my scattered thoughts as I made the leap. I keep smiling randomly. It's crazy and amazing that I'm sitting on an airplane that's about to take me across the Atlantic ocean where I will spend the next nine months of my life. The captain interrupted the flight to tell everyone that you could see exceptionally strong northern lights out the windows. Naturally, everyone's windows flew open. Outside there were green glowing lights flowing like rivers, a sight I had never seen before. I couldn't get a good picture, but what an incredible view. I am in Iceland. Not everything is in English, which is intimidating. I am eating the crappiest $9 sandwich I've ever tasted on an artistic wooden bench. Imagine what you think an artistic wooden bench in an Icelandic airport might look like, and that's exactly where I'm sitting. It's misty and windy outside. I'm in Iceland, can you believe it? Out the window I can see England. British land. In 13 minutes I'll be walking in Manchester, England. It's finally happening. In this photo, if you look closely you can just barely see a rainbow. I think that was England saying hello to me. When I should have been trying to catch up on any sort of sleep, I spent most of the coach ride staring outside and taking in everything this new country has to offer. The green landscape and the old stone buildings made me realize that I really was here. I'll end this post with my first view of the coast from the bus. I'm starting to get settled as best I can, learning a lot about the small but significant differences between the two countries. I have a lot more to do, but I'm here and it's beautiful and I'm so excited.
